Sailor Moon (1992-1997)
The 1992 movie adaptation of the popular anime series Sailor Moon has become a cult classic among fans of the series. The movie follows the adventures of the titular Sailor Moon and her friends as they battle the forces of evil. While the movie is primarily a fantasy adventure, it also contains some surprisingly mature moments that explore the themes of sexuality and gender.
The movie opens with a scene in which the main character, Usagi, is seen in a dream sequence in which she is surrounded by a group of scantily-clad male dancers. This scene is meant to represent Usagi's awakening to her own sexuality, as she is surrounded by a group of men who are clearly attracted to her. This scene is also significant in that it is one of the few moments in the movie that features a female character in a sexualized context.
Later in the movie, Usagi and her friends are confronted by a group of villains who have the power to transform into beautiful women. These villains use their powers to seduce the heroes, and the scene is filled with sexual innuendo and suggestive dialogue. This scene is significant in that it shows how the villains use their powers to manipulate and control the heroes, and it also serves as a reminder of the power of sexuality.
Finally, the movie ends with a scene in which Usagi and her friends are seen in a romantic embrace. This scene is significant in that it shows the characters embracing their sexuality and expressing their love for one another. It is also a reminder that, despite the dangers they face, the heroes are still capable of finding love and happiness.
Overall, the movie adaptation of Sailor Moon contains some surprisingly mature moments that explore the themes of sexuality and gender. These moments are significant in that they show how the characters are growing and maturing, and they also serve as a reminder of the power of love and sexuality.
Many of the series female antagonists are dressed provocatively.
The Specter Sisters have brief nude scenes when they are healed
In Season 3, both Messiahs are depicted as nude women. There is no graphic genitalia.
The last episode showed Usagi completely nude, but this was done in a mannequin-style rather than in a sexual way.
Several characters often make references. An example of a character would be Minako Aino
Characters are seen wearing short/ cut clothing
Characters share beds and homes
The show has a fair amount of fan service, mostly skirts and costumes
Character Ami Mizuno is seen completely naked. This scene is not sexual in anyway, it's supposed to be for purity.
Contains only very mild stylised nudity throughout the course of the series.
Transformation sequences depict the Sailor Guardians nude, however, their bodies are bathed in white. The shape of their breasts and buttocks are occasionally visible. Throughout the second season, several villains undergo a brief purification process in which their naked bodies spin around before returning to their ordinary states. Nipples are depicted in some of these sequences, however, any such nudity is very brief and presented in a fantastical, non-eroticised fashion.
Also contains infrequent "fan-service" (shots common in anime) in the form of panty shots and the like. Such shots are usually incidental and are not prolonged.
One episode is shown Usagi naked holding luna but this is not sexual.
Also contains infrequent very mild naturalistic nudity.
Chibiusa has some panty shots which is kinda creepy considering she's only a young girl.
Esmurade is scene once in the bath, not that sexual, though.
The last episode contains the most nudity, Usagi is completly nude throughout most of the episode. However, there are no nipples or genitalia.
There are usually kissing and so called 'make out scenes' throughout seasons 2 - 5, season 1 does not feature as much.
Unfortunately, a r*p3 sene occurs in season 2. The scene is not mentioned again after the episode.
