Emmanuelle 3 (1977)
Emmanuelle 3 (1977) is a French erotic drama film directed by Francis Giacobetti. It is the third installment in the Emmanuelle series and follows the story of Emmanuelle (Sylvia Kristel) and her husband Jean (Umberto Orsini).
The film is known for its explicit sexual scenes, which are integral to the plot. Emmanuelle and Jean's relationship is explored through a series of intimate moments, including a passionate lovemaking scene in a hot air balloon. The film also features a number of other sexual encounters, including a threesome with Emmanuelle's friend Ariane (Daniela Poggi) and a steamy encounter with a young man (Alain Cuny).
The film's erotic scenes are not just about titillation, but also about exploring the complexities of human relationships. Emmanuelle's journey of self-discovery is depicted through her sexual encounters, which are often portrayed as liberating and empowering.
The film is a classic example of the French New Wave movement, which was characterized by its focus on sexuality and its rejection of traditional narrative conventions. Emmanuelle 3 is a bold and daring exploration of human sexuality, and its explicit scenes remain as provocative today as they were when the film was first released.
The opening scene sets the tone of the movie. A scantily-clad woman bicycles up to a house, walks inside and up to a bathroom where the woman of the house is bathing. The bathing woman invites her visitor in, whereupon she steps from the tub, presenting full frontal nudity to her visitor and the camera. The visitor has brought a dress, which she helps the freshly-bathed woman try on. After a quick fitting, the woman removes the dress and dons on a robe instead. The pair then go to the bedroom, where they both end up naked and kissing. Later, the woman's husband arrives and joins the women in bed. No action more explicit than kissing and caressing is shown, though intercourse is implied.
The rest of the movie proceeds to play with similar themes, offering frequent scenes of racy dress through full frontal nudity. Some of these scenes are of casual solo and social nudity, and some show either implied or simulated sexual intercourse. The sex scenes involve both heterosexual pairs, lesbian pairs, and mixed groups of men and women.
In these scenes, we see breasts, buttocks and pubic hair. We see a few glimpses of flaccid male genitalia, but never any erections or female genitalia.
Promiscuity and fidelity are the major themes of the movie. The various couples explore the full range from traditional monogamy to open relationships.
