Anne with an E (2017-2019)
Anne with an E (2017) is a Canadian drama series that follows the story of Anne Shirley, an orphan who is sent to live with her aunt and uncle in the fictional town of Avonlea. The series is based on the 1908 novel Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery.
The series has been praised for its strong female characters and its exploration of themes such as gender, sexuality, and identity. One of the most talked-about aspects of the show is its depiction of sexual moments.
The show’s main character, Anne, is a young girl who is coming of age and exploring her sexuality. In the first season, Anne is shown to be curious about her body and her feelings for Gilbert Blythe, her classmate and eventual love interest. In one scene, Anne is shown to be exploring her body in the privacy of her bedroom, and in another, she is seen to be kissing Gilbert.
The show also features a number of other characters who are exploring their sexuality. Diana Barry, Anne’s best friend, is shown to be attracted to a girl in her class, and Marilla Cuthbert, Anne’s aunt, is shown to be in a relationship with a woman.
Overall, Anne with an E (2017) is a show that is not afraid to explore the complexities of sexuality. It is a show that is not only entertaining but also thought-provoking, and it is sure to leave viewers with a lot to think about.
There is euphemism/allusion to sexual/ marital rape
Many kisses between teens are shown. Nothing too bad
There is a kissing scene at the end of season 3
A Teen Boy Abuse A Girl By Touching Her Breast (clothes on)
No sex scenes, no nudity
Over the course of the series, there are implications made more than once about intimate relations, usually referring to an older married couple, but even sometimes referring to younger kids and their curiosity about the subject.
In Season 2, there are references to homosexuality and lesbianism. Besides feminism, LGBTQ issues are woven into the script.
Sex is mentioned very briefly in a few scenes. A girl gets her first period and there is an episode focused on this.
A 16 years old student begins to be in a relationship with her teacher, who's himself a young adult. Nothing happens other than one fast kiss and hand holding. The same teacher later bullies a 14 years old pupil, because he is attracted to him and doesn't want to be. No physical abuse.
There's a scene in Season 1 where in the orphanage, Anne gets her hair pulled by another girl who then licks and kisses her cheek. A bit unsettling as the girls are young and Anne is clearly in distress.
