As per book narrative, by which this film is based on, the main protagonist is brutally raped and murdered; however due to the intensity of this content, much of this was omitted from the script aside from implying that the main antagonist is a child molester/rapist. It should be noted to younger viewers that the actor that played the main antagonist had a difficult time playing this role and did everything in his power to separate himself from his character and would frequently check in with actress who plays the protagonist, and make sure that she was comfortable and okay while filming their more uncomfortable scenes.
It is heavily implied that a man has raped 14 year old girl and other women (few women and some girls).
